He's growing fast. He needs new clothes, new shoes, new toys, new bed ...
The time has come (17 months) to change my son's night habitat. I was thinking about how to up-cycle the old infant bed.
As I love doing simple diy projects, we (+ my wife) have put our brains together and came up with a fine solution. Shortly before Christmas we got started on the transformation. It was a simple project, and it brought us loads of happiness after it was done. The old bed, sort of a closed fortress similar to ikeas sniglar model, has transformed into an open playground throughout the day and cozy sleeping nook at night.

I am not doing a detailed description. Please take this as basic guidelines, I am sure you will be able to do it yourself,)
What you need:
1. old bed grid + mattress
2. wooden rods - 4x4x200cm
3. saw
4. drill
5. screws - 7 cm, hexagonal head
How to:
1. get the bed grid dimensions, mine were 120x59cm, these are the basis dimensions of your bed 2. apply grid size to your house, if the width is different, you will have to calculate not just different width but also a different roof angle 3. cut, drill, get it together 4. play, sleep

Dimensions & Details & Suggestions:

My bed grid had pre-made holes. I used these to fix the grid to the house, using just nails.

Make the side rails approximately 5 cm above the mattress, for me it was a suitable height. Like this, the child's head wont get stuck underneath it and they can't fall out either = little one stays "in the house" all night, except for when they want to crawl out and have a little adventure.

Optional: Add some all-year-round Christmas lights and light them everyday as a part of the bed-time ritual. LO loves it.
